Centre for Research and Technology Hellas, Information Technologies Institute (CERTH-ITI)
|The Information Technologies Institute (CERTH-ITI) (ITI) (formerly known as Informatics and Telematics Institute) of the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH) was founded in 1998 as a non-profit organization under the auspices of the General Secretarial of Research and Technology of Greece (GSRT), with its head office located in Thessaloniki, Greece.|
CERTH-ITI is one of the leading Institutions of Greece in the fields of Informatics and Telecommunications. CERTH-ITI has participated in more than 60 research projects funded by the European Commission (IST FP5-FP7) and more than 90 research projects funded by Greek National Research Programmes and Consulting Subcontracts with the Private Sector (I&T Industry). In 2011, the Information Technologies Institute attracted an income of 7.5 M€ from European competitive R&D projects. CERTH-ITI has long experience and expertise in many research areas including those related to i-Treasures project: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, Semantic Multimedia Analysis and Semantic Web Technologies and 3-D Visualization.
In i-Treasures, two groups will cooperate closely:
1. The Computer Vision group of CERTH-ITI performs research on 3D computer vision, virtual reality, pattern recognition, 3-D reconstruction from multiple images for cultural heritage, etc. It has participated in several related European FP6 and FP7 (e.g. 3D-TV, Hiscore, BioSec, Attest, Pasion, Similar, Intervuse, ISMAEL and OTELO) and national projects in the same field.
2. The Multimedia Knowledge Laboratory also has extensive experience and expertise in semantic, multi-modal analysis and search, which is reflected, for instance, in its leading roles in a number of projects on semantic, multi-modal analysis and search: "MESH", "BOEMIE", "X-Media" and in the organization of related conferences including ACM CIVR 2009, WIAMIS 2007 and SAMT 2006.
CERTH is also participating in standardization activities including the W3C Multimedia Semantics Incubator Group. For the last 10 years, the publication record of CERTH-ITI includes more than 200 scientific publications in international journals and more than 500 publications in conference proceedings and book chapters. In 2005, CERTH-ITI was awarded the "European Group Technical Achievement Award" by the European Association for Signal, Speech and Image Processing (EURASIP) for significant contributions to the theory and application of digital filtering and image processing and coding.
